(The Humanitarian Social Network)
Hi everyone,
I am a 27 year old girl from Norway currently doing fieldwork for my Masters thesis in South Asian studies. The topic is notions of citizenship, rights and entitlements amongst urban poor women in Delhi,
and in this regard I am affilitated with a Gender Resource Centre in Kalyanpuri, East Delhi. The Gender Resource Centre is a part of the Mission Convergence Programme, and a collaboration with the Govt. Of Delhi and an NGO. Hopefully,I will be able to shed some light on the
increasing collaboration between civil society and the Govt. regarding public service delivery and social security in India in my thesis. I speak Hindi, but I find it a bit difficult to really get in-depth interviews with the women coming to the centre, which is what I really
need.
Thus, I'm looking for someone who can accompany me to the GRC and into the surrounding jhugghi areas to assist me in the interviews.Preferably, this someone would be an Indian girl around my age or a bit younger (because we're speaking to only women, I don't mean to discriminate!), who doesn't mind translating from English to Hindi and
back on the spot, and who's comfortable walking around in poorer areas of Delhi, speaking with the women there. I would also love it if you're interested in social matters, women empowerment, etc! Maybe you've even
studied it or worked in an NGO?
I'm going back to Norway the 11th of April, so this is a short project.
I am just a student and therefore my funds are a bit limited, however, I would pay you for your work (we can discuss the amount), and on completion I would also write a letter of recommendation confirming your
involvement in the project.
If you're interested or know someone who is, please send me an email telling me a bit about yourself and your interests, and any previous work experience you've had with being an interpreter. Also, don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions. I would be happy to answer them. :)
This would be my first time working with an interpreter, and I'm hoping it will be a good experience for both of us! :)
