My grandparents and aunt and uncle are going on a vacation to the Dominican Republic and staying in a beach resort. My grandma recently told my family that she wants to pay for us to go on vacation with them.

Although I do not know too much about the effects of tourism, my immediate thought was no way would I go on vacation to a developing country and stay in a resort that I'm sure exploits the local population. I don't exactly know how to explain my hesitations to my grandma, and it doesn't help that when I went to the website for the resort they are staying at, there was a whole section on how they are practicing sustainable development and helping the local population.

I want to research more about the effects of tourism--specifically resorts--on developing countries, but I don't know where to start. Anyone have any articles/websites/blog posts/books they can recommend?
